Street naming conventions are in place to:
- ensure that an address is found quickly using search tools in databases especially by the emergency services.
- to meet the requirements of the Local Land and Property Gazetteer, the National Address Gazetteer and BS7666:2006 - The British Standard for geographical referencing.
Many historical street names will include some of the following which are no longer considered to be best practice. This is not a reason to change a street name unless there is good reason.
